Fixed & Handheld RFID Readers
The RFID reader is the brain of every tracking system, turning physical assets into real-time data. AssetPulse curates hardware from leading manufacturers — Zebra, Impinj, Alien, and others — and hand-picks the right combination of readers, antennas, and cables for your environment.
Fixed Readers
Automated Monitoring at Key Locations
Fixed readers are mounted on walls, ceilings, portals, and choke points to automatically monitor tagged assets as they pass by. No human interaction required — assets are read continuously in real time.
Distributed Readers
Separate reader and antenna components connected by cables. Can support 1–4 antennas directly, or up to 32 with multiplexers. Ideal when you need flexible antenna placement — e.g., one antenna for check-in/check-out at a door, or 20+ along a production line.

Integrated Readers
Reader and antenna built into a single unit — no cables required. Easier to deploy with minimal hardware. Best suited for scenarios where tagged assets move through predictable paths like doorways or conveyor belts.
Mobile Readers
On-Demand Scanning for Field & Warehouse
Mobile readers put RFID scanning in your team’s hands — purpose-built handhelds for heavy-duty use, or lightweight sleds that turn any smartphone into a reader.
Mobile Computing Devices
Handheld readers with an integrated onboard computer, display, and RFID module in a single ruggedized device. Purpose-built for warehouse walks, inventory audits, and field operations.
Sled Readers
Compact RFID reader sleds that connect to a smartphone or tablet via Bluetooth or auxiliary port. Turn any mobile device into an RFID scanner — a cost-effective option for teams that already carry phones.
Specifications
How Readers Are Classified
Operating Frequency
LF, HF, UHF, or multi-frequency support
Connectivity
Ethernet, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, USB, or cellular
Processing Power
Onboard filtering, edge computing capabilities
Power Options
PoE, battery, AC adapter, or USB-powered
Antenna Ports
Number of external antennas the reader supports
Antennas
RFID Antennas & Cables
Antennas convert the reader’s signal into RF waves that energize and communicate with tags. Unlike readers, antennas have no processing capabilities — they are pure transceivers. Choosing the right antenna depends on your read zone geometry, environment, and tag orientation.
Form Factor
Panel, patch, rod, or embedded designs
Polarization
Linear (longer range, fixed orientation) or circular (reads multiple orientations, shorter range)
Antenna Gain
Higher gain produces a more powerful, further-reaching RF field
Ruggedness
IP ratings for dust, moisture, and impact resistance
Mounting
Wall, ceiling, portal, desk, or embedded options
Antenna Cables
Cables connect distributed readers to their antennas. They are classified by connector type, length, and insulation rating. Longer cables lose more signal power, which can be offset by thicker insulation — but thicker cables are harder to route around corners and through conduits. AssetPulse sizes cables to balance signal integrity with installation practicality.
Pairs with the AssetGather Platform
All readers feed reads directly into the AssetGather Server, and handhelds run AssetGather Handheld or Mobile software in the field.
